Metacognitive Therapy Australia
Last updated: October 2026
Metacognitive Therapy Australia is committed to protecting your privacy and handling personal and health information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
Information We Collect
We may collect personal information including your name, contact details, medical and mental health history, referral documents and other information relevant to providing therapy.
Information may be collected through website enquiries, intake forms, consultations, correspondence and referrals from healthcare professionals.
How Your Information Is Used
Your information is used to respond to enquiries, assess suitability for treatment, provide therapy, maintain clinical records, manage appointments and payments, and meet professional and legal obligations.
Your information is treated confidentially and is only disclosed with your consent, where required or authorised by law, or where otherwise permitted under applicable privacy legislation, including circumstances involving a serious threat to health or safety.
Clinical Records and Data Security
Metacognitive Therapy Australia uses Halaxy, an Australian practice management platform, to manage appointments, client information, intake forms and clinical records.
We also use NovoNote, an AI-assisted clinical documentation tool, to help prepare session notes.
Informed consent for the use of NovoNote is obtained through our Halaxy intake form before treatment. Clients may decline or withdraw consent for future sessions at any time without affecting their access to therapy.
When NovoNote is used, session audio is temporarily processed to generate clinical documentation. According to NovoNote, audio is deleted following successful transcription and is not retained as a permanent recording. Transcripts may be retained according to system settings.
AI-generated clinical notes are reviewed by the treating clinician before being incorporated into the clinical record.
Halaxy and NovoNote state that clinical data is stored on secure servers in Australia. Reasonable measures are taken to protect personal and health information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse and disclosure. Clinical records are retained in accordance with applicable legal and professional requirements.
Third-Party Services and Overseas Processing
We use third-party technology providers for website hosting, practice management, communications and clinical documentation.
Some providers use overseas service providers or subprocessors, including organisations based in the United States. Personal information may be disclosed overseas where necessary to provide these services, subject to applicable privacy and security requirements.
Our website may also collect technical information, such as IP addresses and cookies, through its hosting platform.
Access, Corrections and Privacy Concerns
You may request access to your personal information or ask for corrections by contacting Metacognitive Therapy Australia. Requests will be handled in accordance with applicable privacy legislation.
If you have a concern or complaint about how your information has been handled, please contact us by email. We will review your concern and aim to respond within 30 days.
If your concern remains unresolved, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au.
